Fatherlessness

Mal 4:5 "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes.

Mal 4:6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse." 



FATHERLESSNESS

Here are some statistics from the States, which unfortunately apply equally to our nation. NZ is not only suffering from Fatherlessness in our families, but also as a nation we are Fatherless.

An astounding 61% of the households in America today are fatherless! In case you have any doubts as to how damaging it is to have a nation full of “absentee fathers”, the following statistics should help put things in perspective.

  1. •63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes. (Source: U.S. D.H.H.S. Bureau of the Census)

  2. •90% of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes. (Source: U.S. D.H.H.S. Bureau of the Census)

  3. •85% of all children that exhibit behavioural disorders come from fatherless homes. (Source: Centre for Disease Control)

  4. •80% of rapists motivated with displaced anger come from fatherless homes.(Source: Criminal Justice & Behaviour, Vol. 14, pg 403-26, 1978)

  5. •71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes. (Source: National Principals Association Report on the State of High Schools)

  6. •75% of all adolescent patients in chemical abuse centres come from fatherless homes. (Source: Rainbows For All God’s Children)

  7. •70% of juveniles in state-operated institutions come from fatherless homes.(Source: U.S. Dept. of Justice, Special Report, Sept. 1998)

  8. •85% of all youths sitting in prisons grew up in a fatherless home. (Source: Fulton Co. Georgia jail populations, Texas Dept. of Corrections, 1992)

Sobering Statistics aren’t they – but God has a plan. It is you and it is me. It is up to us as men of God to teach, to teach until every man is taught “that manhood and Christlikeness are synonymous”; “that being a male is a matter of birth, being a man is a matter of choice”. To bring men into a knowledge of Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and to go and make disciples.


Programmes won’t do it and politics won’t do it. The thing that sets men free is truth. As a fellow lover of the truth I urge you to help us turn our country around by restoring fathers to the home, and a fathering "spirit" to our nation.


So as Men who live in this great country of New Zealand, lets get a New Zeal for our Children, let,s be the fathers God wants us to be.
